Vicks Vaporub
One of the most common and easy method of treating nail fungus is by applying Vicks Vaporub on the affected finger. Wash your feet with warm water. You can also apply an antibacterial soap to clean your feet properly. Use a fresh towel to wipe dry your feet. Use a Q-tip or your index finger to rub a generous amount of Vicks Vapor Rub on and around infected toenails. Cover with a Band Aid or wear a clean socks. Repeat this process every night.
Hydrogen Peroxide
Soak your feet in a basin filled with equal proportions of water and Hydrogen Peroxide for about 15-20 minutes. After this, dry the feet completely.
Vinegar
Put vinegar in a little bottle, preferably a bottle with a dropper. Put few drops of vinegar on the affected nails all over the nails-on top, under the nail and to the sides at least twice a day, every day. Or else you can fill a bucket with equal proportion of water and natural apple cider vinegar. Soak your feet in the bucket for few minutes. Thereafter, dry your toenails thoroughly.
Tea Tree Oil
This is a popular aromatherapy treatment for nail fungus. Take an ear bud , dip it in the oil bottle and apply it on the nail. See that it touches the toenail all over so that the drop goes where you touch. You can apply this on other nails as well. Wipe off the oil after few minutes. Or else you can add 10 drops of tea tree oil to a tub of warm water to make a therapeutic foot soak. Soak your feet for few minutes. Dry your feet completely later. You can then apply a few drops of oil directly to the rash. Repeat this process atleast 2 times a day continuously. You can get Tea Tree Oil at any drug store, and some grocery stores.
Turmeric
An old Indian home remedy. Make a paste with turmeric powder and water. Apply this paste on your toe nail. Rinse it off when it dries and then properly dry your feet.
Onion Slice
Take few slices of onions and rub the affected toenail with the slices for sometime. This is an effective way to treat the fungal infection.
This is another popular home remedy. Soak a cotton ball in concentrated lime juice. Rub the cotton on the affected toenail.
Other Methods
- Avoid applying nail polish.
- Keep your feet clean.
- Trim and file your infected nails. Making them shorter and thinner is half the battle.
- Always use a clean towel and do not share your towel with others.
- It is very essential to wash the feet properly after visiting public places, like swimming pools, spas, showers and locker rooms.
